For centuries, the Daegon waited. They plotted. And now they are ready to strike.

The core worlds of settled space enjoy a tenuous peace, unaware and ill prepared for the threat building beyond the furthest reaches of humanity. The star kingdom of Albion stands as a shining light of justice and mercy in a harsh galaxy, and they will be the first to suffer the Daegon's fury.

Defying his low born status, and despite his self-doubt, Commodore Thomas Gage has risen through the ranks by sheer grit and determination, defending Albion from brutal pirate clans.

And when the onslaught comes, Gage and his fleet may be Albion's last hope for freedom.

A new military science-fiction series for fans of Honor Harrington, Earth Alone and Old Man’s War from the author of the best-selling Ember War Saga.

Albion Lost The Exiled Fleet Book 1 eBook Richard Fox

Hot of the space-presses! I picked up Albion Lost the day it released and plowed through it. (I’m a slow plow) I’ve been an avid reader of Richard Fox ever since finding his Ember War saga. I listened to the two-volume starter pack on Audible and was hooked.

With Albion Lost, Richard has created a brand new military science fiction series, with new heroes, new villains and a whole new universe to explore and destroy. Like his EW series, gun fights, space battles and armored battlesuits explode off the page, and the new characters pull everything together.

I will admit, it took me slightly longer than usual to keep the main characters, but only because I’ve been listening to his EW series and love those characters. I had to force myself to remember that this series is something completely different.

Commodore Thomas Gage, beings the novel on a mission to save some colonists from pirates, and ends the story fighting one of the most deadly threats humanity has ever faced. The Daegon are better equipped, efficient and brutal. Their existence surprising, their mission a mystery, their plans for humanity deadly.

I’m eagerly awaiting the second book in the series, and highly recommend Albion Lost to anyone who loves military science fiction with great characters, awesome space battles and epic stakes!

Albion Lost The Exiled Fleet Book 1 eBook Richard Fox Reviews

This book took a while to make enough connections to get the action moving, but once it did, the action did not stop. The story is interesting and keeps you engrossed. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
A space opera book like the old masters. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and can't wait to read more by him. Plan on reading other books by him. If this was a clue of what to expect, I can't wait
In Albion Lost, Richard Fox has created a complex universe with richly nuanced characters. It is a book written for adults, revealing the protagonists to the reader gradually through their actions and thoughts—not by mere description, as many writers do. As soon as I finished reading it, I turned back to the first page, reread it immediately, and again wished that the next book in the series was already published. Well done, Mr. Fox. This is an excellent book.
A GREAT story line that deals with a planetary system that doesn't contain Earth, noble military guys trying to do the right thing against a tribe of really bad guys, turncoats, pirates, and the innocent civilization of a planet caught on the edge of the border between good and evil. First book of two, I hope the third comes out soon because this story flows flawlessly into the second of the series and leaves you breathless for the next installment.
Just finished reading Albion Lost by Richard Fox. Found the beginning to be slow but informative to allow the reader to gain an insight into the history and the back ground of a number of characters. As I read deeper into the book it developed all the different characters and had a lot of action with them and each group they were with. Fully enjoyed reading it and found (sadly) it ended to soon, will now be looking forward with anticipation for the next book in this series; as I did when reading The Ember War series! And I think most of us who have read Mr. Fox's work can fully agree on these points, great to read and hate looking down the road for the next book to come out; Darn it!!!!
This is a great space action novel, full of AI controlled nanite power armour, bio-enhanced spies and space pirates. If you like Neal Asher's books or the Ember war series you'll love this. The plot is very much space marines and lasers, with great action and the promise of a great story over the course of the series. I'm trying to avoid details because I don't want to spoil the plot, but it follows a small number of characters though an invasion, which is a similar set-up to the Ember War, but this is a totally deferent universe, with different politics and technology, it doesn't feel like a re-tread over old ideas. As with Richard's other books it's short, but it's inexpensive and the release cycle is rapid so you don't have to wait too long for the next part.
Note The occasional spoiler pops up in this review. First off, this book is hugely entertaining and I'm already hooked on this brand new series from Ember War author, Richard Fox. Why? Several reasons First, the author managed to lull me into thinking this book had nothing to do with nasty aliens (or not) swanning into a lovely, peaceful Star Nation (Albion) because for the first forty percent of the book it was all about the Albions going about their everyday lives. Commodore Gage, aide to Admiral Sartorius of the Albion Navy's 11th Fleet is assisting with humanitarian aid on the Planet of Siam; Salis arrives on Albion to take up a contract as a Genevan guard to Albion's King Randalph; intelligence operative, Talon has just brought in notorious terrorist and criminal, Ja'war; King Randalph and Albion are getting ready for all the tourists coming in to watch the prism whales and former disgraced Genevan guardsman, Thorvald is on is way back to the Geneva. Yep, it's just a bunch of Albions going about their everyday jobs and life until.......boom, next minute the action ramps up as unknown ships enter the Albion system. Game on, readers! From that point on, it is an action-packed and oh so intense ride as the Albions's Home Fleet tries to defend their home and the King's Genevan guards try to protect the King and his family.
Secondly, this whole book screams great characters that are likeable and the nasty, bad aliens (the Daegon) are very, very mean - seriously, who goes after a three year boy (ok, yeah, he's the last surviving member of the Albion royal family) just to knock him off? Thirdly, the author has left us with so many hints about the characters background as well as the setting, that I want to know more (very clever, Mr Fox) and I definitely want to know more about the Genevan guards' gestalt (armor that is intelligent) which gives them extra strength....(sigh).... unfortunately I guess I'll just have to wait until April which is when the next book is due out. I highly recommend this new series )
